World Wide Web Fights: The original Grudge Match is no more, but a group of dedicated fans (with the blessing of the grudge creators) have revived it in G2: Grudgement Day. The first match is the Men in Black versus Mork from Ork, a good sign for things to come.
www.comedycentral.com: With great new shows like South Park, Win Ben Stein's Money, and The Daily Show, Comedy Central is kickin' ass and takin' names.
The Gallery of the Absurd: Oh, yes. Yes, indeed. From the S&M Variety Store to the Scary SoupLady to the Demon Children, this is a great compendium of all that makes our great advertising nation absolutely ridiculous. Go see it. Now.
Slap-A-Spice-Girl: Fun with misogyny! Anyone who has Shockwave on their browser can engage in this most entertaining variant of "Whack-a-mole."
Akiko is a beauitfully drawn comic book series about the adventures of a little Japanese girl on the planet Smoo. It's a cross between Alice in Wonderland and Star Wars with a bit of Manga thrown in for fun. A great read for all ages. Unfortunately, Akiko's creator has chosen to put his official site on the hated Geocities, so it is with great reluctance that I link to it.
Hiyao Miyazaki has effectively turned the world of animation on its ear with his epic Princess Mononoke, or Mononoke Hime in Japanese. His unique vision and mastery of the form leaves the others in the dust.
Ranma 1/2 is my latest obsession. It's a hilarious anime series with an enormous cast of surprisingly sympathetic characters. It is, though, obnoxiously hard to find episodes that aren't dubbed or amazingly expensive.
Animaniacs is a cartoon with enough physical humor for kids, but so much sly humor for grown-ups that it's a hoot to watch.
The Non-Stick Looney
Tunes Site: Big site...huge...big...giant...huge...bigbig...huge.
Neil Gaiman: The creator of nothing less than a new mythology. He is the author of the Sandman series, the novels Stardust, Neverwhere, and Good Omens, and the translator of Princess Mononoke into English.
Jonah Wieland's
Comics Resources: With a new URL, a new look,
and tons of new infor, this site has gone from mediocre to great.
Batman has always been my favorite
superhero, and the first two movies, the Fox cartoon, and my recent rediscovery
of The Dark Knight Returns graphic novel only reinforced that opinion (although
Batman Forever was pretty bad, and Batman and Robin was a fetid cesspool).
